“Mama, You’re My Superhero”

When my then five-year-old said those words, I wanted to freeze that moment, for isn’t this how all parents wish to be seen, through the eyes of our children?  From that moment, I knew that I didn’t just want to watch my daughter fly through her youth, I wanted to participate it in! We play together all the time- from kicking the soccer ball, to our years-long tradition of racing home after dinner at our favorite restaurant. I don’t always need to win these races, but I always need to compete. I strive to consistently be an active player in my child’s life; ready to participate in anything and everything she may throw at me. Although Wonder Woman I am not, I will continue to be inspired by my daughter to be my best self. My desire is to empower all women to feel their best, and to be active players in their unique lives.

An athlete from a young age, I was always active playing sports and exercising. At the same time, I realized how great it felt to move my body.  As a result, I have become intrinsically motivated to move. After my daughter was born, my motivation reached a whole new level. I need to not only be physically fit for my own health, but also to serve as a good role model for my child, and to be strong and fit enough to engage with her on all levels.

I also noticed another thing happening several years after my daughter was born- she wasn’t the only one getting older!  As I’ve continued to be physically active, my body wasn’t responding in the same ways that it had in the past. It was taking longer to recover, my agility and quickness were decreasing, and it was more difficult to “bounce back” into my routine after a night out. Due to this shift, I had to learn to work with my body, instead of forcing it to do the same things, in the same way as I had previously.  As a result, I am able to continue to be active, doing the things I enjoy. I would like for all of you to feel your physical best while doing what you love, by empowering you to move well, play well, and live well.
